A Sporty feel but much less thirsty and kinder for the planet; that`s Volkswagen`s selling point for the Concept BlueSport vehicle which premieres in Detroit this Winter. Despite being four metres in length, the Roadster weighs less than 1200kg and it`s performance is pretty heady too. It is derived from a turbo diesel engine which is designed to pack away maximum horses and hardly squander any through the combustion and delivery process.
Every 4.3-litres has the task of thrusting the BlueSport 100km down the open road which ammounts to an average run of 66mpg by UK measure and 55mpg in the US. There has to be enough plantations on your journey to suck up 113g/km of C02 which isn`t a big ask as long as your not driving through the Nevada dessert. Obviously that figure goes up if you were to push the car to its 140mph top speed or dart to 62mph from the traffic lights in a mere 6.6 seconds but sods law a copper would be trailing you if you pulled a stunt like that! Good to know however that the 2.0-litre TDi will provide 350Nm to get you out of tight spots and away from Sunday drivers when you need it and 180hp as well as a six-speed quick shift gearbox to keep you in the flow of things.
