Modified Porsche Supercharged Cayman S Pictures
ANOTHER KIND OF HOLLYWOOD
When the curtains were pulled on this supercharged Cayman S, the critics were speechless; have you ever known a re-make to get such unanimous respect?

At 35, modifier and owner of Image Auto Design, Shawn Bennett is certainly no amateur in the business, he’s been modifying cars since he was 17 and has been given the tag name ‘Hollywood’ on the show circuit due to his quality craftsmanship. It’s no wonder then that he even managed to attract the attentions of Sony whose representatives are always on the look out for talent. Shawn’s last project car was a Nissan 350Z, the pics of which can be found in a back copy of the XPLOD Speciality Series catalogue. Since scouting Shawn at one of America’s top shows, the both of them have proffed significantly. Shawn’s Porsche boosts the very latest ICE install and Sony has one of the slickest advertising campaigns in the business.
Shawn bought the Cayman S brand new and couldn’t wait to turn it in to an even rarer art form. His experience in fabricating his own fiberglass housings and doing all the necessary LED and neon electronics meant that he often competed in IASCA and ISACi contests. Sony noted that he had quite a dab hand for presentation and entrusted his expertise to headline their XPLOD hardware.
Shawn has certainly done a fine job of incorporating the DVD and CD head unit in to the dash and perfecting the housings for the door speakers. Now under the bonnet where the spare wheel used to be there’s a pair of amplifiers and blue neon apertures which look simply remarkable. Taking cues from the rear this is all on display thanks to a clear cover over the housing.
Inside Shawn’s motor there’s very inviting GT3 leather bucket seats and a TC Design roll-bar as well as the blue-themed neon lighting which helps to set the ambience. A few touches of Suede and some Rennelin goodies and the Cayman S had a whole new lease of life breathed in to it.
The Exterior is equally impressive with the Techart body kit being purposeful enough to draw attention and yet intuitive enough to compliment the original beauty of the car. The spoiler, side skirts and mirror covers can all be attributed to the Techart brand and in keeping with its classy image their advertising has been scrolled very subtly.
A lower ride height is practically a given in the modified world but when you’ve got a car with the handling capabilities of the Cayman S you’d be best advised to get very scientifical before steaming in and ruining it. After consulting the experts Shawn opted for a few simple enhancements such as a Rennlin strut brace, KW Variant 3 Coilovers
and a TC Design anti-roll bar.
The wheels are then the centre piece of this design and Shawn was more than happy to fork out a fair amount of cash to have them just so. He enlisted the talents of Boyd Coddington in La Habra, California to create these pretty rare 20-inch items. Having the engine on display is also very ‘Hollywood;’ with its Supercharged capabilities there’s no need to be shy about the magnificent flat six that Porsche kept hidden away.
Shawn was determined to bring the power in line with the car’s superb handling. We’re sure most people will agree that Porsche should have been more generous with the grunt in the first place but then would tuning be so much fun if manufacturers always got it right the first time around? Besides when Porsche release something new they have to think about the internal politics and how it will affect their other models like the potent Porsche 911.
So they left it to Shawn to over trump their most reverent model and with the help of VF Engineering in LA, he’s now hopeful that his Cayman S will stir up 402hp as well as topping 190mph. None of this engine work was child’s play however, if you’ve ever studied the rear end of a Cayman S you will note there’s not a lot of space to work with. Time was also a pressing factor and LA Engineering were on the cusp of bailing out on Shawn until something suddenly clicked.
Essentially Shawn’s Cayman S was the guinea pig for the Supercharger installation kit LA Engineering is now developing. If you were at SEMA and CES in 2006 then you probably clocked Shawn’s motor and can appreciate all the work that went in to optimizing the internals, this is now on full view due to the clear engine cover.
Considering the whole project had a deadline of 3 months (keeping it on schedule for the up and coming shows) not a bit of it looks rushed. You can definitely see why the name ‘Hollywood’ has stuck and we’re sure the trilogy will be just as compelling.
