Now it’s easy to brag about how quick we are around a circuit or down a drag strip when we’ve got a joy stick in our hand but how well would these figures actually transfer to the tarmac? Well Motoring fanatics Ulrica and Mikael Svensson from Sweden were keen to find out but rather than leaving all the stripping down and fitting to a bodyshop they decided to make it their own little project. Not very romantic you may say but who knows what fantasies you can cook up in a dimly lit garage with only you’re imagination and is that a new tool I spy…Anyway we digress. Of course their minds were on the Amuse GT1 21-piece widebody kit which according to Ulrika was a real bugger to get hold of. As far as she is aware there are only three other S2000’s donning this attire, not because nobody’s that fussed about having one but rather more that it would cost you an arm and a leg to own one.

But as you will come to see Ulrika is a determined lady and even though she had to get it shipped over from America, she wasn’t settling for anything else. Incidentally Ulrika has always been a bit of a petrol head due to her motorbike sales background and with the help of boyfriend Mikael who is a mechanic and stunt driver they had all the skills at they needed right at their fingertips.

Having won a number of trophies last year for the same S2000 with its USA-style bodykit and lashings of carbon fibre the pressure was on to create a fresher and even more dramatic look. As you can see they’ve really pushed the boat out this time; not only have they done a fine job of fitting the Amuse bodykit (sourced from a stockist in the USA) but they’ve also stylised the roofline with a Mugen-style carbon fibre hardtop. The C-West-style bonnet is also a gem, as with the hardtop, they sourced it from Seibon in the USA and it again fulfils their penance for carbon fibre.

As this S2000 passes you, you’ll get just as much of a treat from the rear. True to its fantasy origins the couple opted for a GS Racing Type II carbon fibre spoiler which gives it a real underground look. The wheels could also afford to be ostentatiously large and Ulrika was rubbing her hands together with excitement when she spied the Volk CE28N Time Attack specimens which just about squeeze in the arches. They measure 10.5x19” at the front while at the rear they’re an even juicer 10.5x19” with a 9 offset. However as impressive as these are for shows and general cruising, when it comes to setting decent quarter mile times a quick change to the 17” rims are the preferred option.

Visible from between the spokes is the strangling power of 330mm discs; these are the centre piece of the StopTech big brake kit. You’ll also notice that the S2000 squats pretty low to the floor given the help of H&R coilovers. The Cusco strut brace up front is then responsible for keeping the body taut. Of course when you’ve got 463hp rickashaying through the chassis and finding life in the rear wheels, a rigid skeleton is of paramount importance. There’s no chance it will be wallowing through corners either.
As Mikael and Ulrika also love racing their S2000 its handling and performance needed to be equally as impressive. Originally it was a Vortech supercharger that brought them the adrenaline fix they’d been craving. With the supercharger’s wheel and belt changed the roadster was running at 1.25 bar and revving at 9200rpm. But even with 350bhp which was 100 over the intentions of the factory, the Swedish pair still longed for something more extreme; something more Gran Turismo.

Now the Playstation S2000 Amuse is turbocharged and for authentic reasons Ulrika just couldn’t sleep at night until she’d order herself a turbo kit from LoveFab (www.lovefab.com) in the States. Turbocharged S2000’s are rare at any cost but our Swedish fans were quite happy to lay down $8500 to be one of the lucky ones. As well as the Garrett GT35R turbo the Michigan company also provide a Tial 44mm wastegate, Tial 50mm blow-off valve and Precision 750hp intercooler. Other essential synergists like the fuel rail, pump, pressure regulator and injectors were custom made in the couple’s minute garage. They have also crafted their own 3” straight through exhaust system which compliments the 3” P-Fab downpipe and manifold.

To finish off the engine bay the addition of a 3mm Cometic head gasket was used to drop the compression to 8.8:1 and to keep tabs on the temperature, a Koyo radiator sits in place of the original and then plenty of polishing, blue Samco hoses, a green HKS air filter and braided lines and red connectors all ensure that it is going to the catch the eyes of all right people at shows. All that was left then in technical terms was the optimisation of the engine management which Mikael and Ulrika left to Civinco in Gothenburg. Their latest quarter mile figures certainly reflect all the hard work (11.41 at 207km/h). Ulrika’s next conquest is to get a dyno read of 500bhp at the rear wheels, right now though the couple are enjoying all their handiwork.

Strapped in to those miniature Buddy Club racing seats with Jap-style green Takata harnesses they can pilot their own entertainment. Stay too long away from that OMP Quadro steering wheel with its carbon fibre centre console and they get withdrawal symptoms. There’s something about the range of A’PEXi gauges and that Halmeter AF30 air/fuel ratio meter that also get them in the racing spirit and we can easily see why.

Being the first car they’ve customised completely from the ground up (aside from the Honda White Diamond Pearl paintwork and the engine management) the couple have exactly the end product they were after. It’s a huge inspiration for us all and proves that fantasy is more than virtually possible.
