Nine Hundred prospective buyers want Porsche to put their money where their mouth is and produce the 918 Spyder.

The sultry new two-seater drop top was revealed at Geneva last month surrounded by all the buzz of its hybrid status. Housing no less than three electric motors producing 218PS as well as a V8 engine producing 500PS gives this stunner a total output of 718PS. This translates to a 0-62mph dash in 3.2 seconds and top speed of 198 mph. Of course topping up the power is not all the electric motors can do; they also boost the miles per gallon to 78.4 and give it as little C02 emissions as 70g/km as measured by US official guidelines. So far 900 customers are interested but Porsche want at least 100 more before they commit to production. Even then you can`t expect to own one for at least another five years. We should see quite a few other entirely new models pop up over that time too as Porsche has set itself the goal of pushing its sales volume up to 150,000 units a year.
