Saab has officially unveiled the 9-4X crossover at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
Based on the Cadillac SRX, the 9-4X flaunts a minimalist Scandinavian design which recalls the 9-5 sedan and 9-4X BioPower concept. Notable styling features include a wraparound windshield, a `hockey stick` waistline, bi-xenon headlights, a dual-exhaust system, and 18-inch alloy wheels (20-inchers on the Aero).
Inside, the cabin comes nicely equipped with leather upholstery, eight-way power seats, wood trim (faux carbon fiber in the Aero), mesh-style air vents, and a center console-mounted push-button ignition. Saab also offers a Bose audio system, GPS navigation (with an eight-inch touchscreen), tri-zone climate control, and a rear entertainment system.
The base 3.0-liter V6 produces 265 PS (195 kW / 262 hp) and allows the crossover to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 9.0 seconds. For added performance, the Aero uses a turbocharged 2.8-liter V6 which produces 300 PS (221 kW / 296 hp) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque. It enables the crossover to run from 0-100 km/h in 8.3 seconds.
Regardless of what engine is selected, power follows through a six-speed automatic transmission and Saab`s XWD all-wheel drive system. The latter can vary torque between the front and rear axles as well as transfer up to 50% of the torque to the rear wheel with the most traction (through its eLSD).
Pricing information hasn`t been released, but U.S. sales are scheduled to begin in May. Europe and "other global markets" will have to wait until August.
