Driving a sports car without being stereotyped as a narcissist is getting easier these days and to prove this Porsche now has three all-electric Boxster E prototypes under development in Stuttgart.

The new model`s engines will be sourced from VW and it is thought that there will be two electric motors for each axel and these will produce 240hp. The Porsche Boxster E will use a 29 kWh battery and have a range up to 100 miles. Quite when the new electric vehicle will arrive in showrooms is unknown but they certainly aren`t willing to let Tesla move in and steal too many of their potential clients on the basis of environmental ethics. Of course the Boxster E will still appeal to quite a niche portion of the market and hybrids are very much the current trend. With this in mind there`s the Cayenne SUV and a 918 Spyder which both share the 500hp V8 engine twinned with dual electric motors which can rustle up an extra 218hp on demand. A value driven brand or just one with good business sense? Either way they`ve got their fingers on all buttons.
