Champion breed: Zakspeed Dodge Viper GTS-R by Heurich Classics
Once a Le Mans winner, this 1998 Dodge Viper GTS-R was previously owned and raced by Zakspeed however last year it was bought by a private owner who wanted to return it to its 1999 endurance racing glory. It took a lot of engineering alterations to make it viable for the road. We hope though that its 6.2-litre V8 engine producing 600 horsepower gets a fair few opportunities to be flung around on the track.

ZAKSPEED-VIPER FOR THE ROAD by HEURICH Classics, BRUXSAFOL Folien
A little bit about the background of the car: in 2010 the current owner acquired the Viper presented here. However, not in the present state. After all it is a former winner car of the Zakspeed racing which is absolutely racing-tuned. After the acquisition, the Heurich Classics plant, founded in
2006 in the Bavarian Zeitlofs-Rupboden specializing in custom work, was commissioned to convert this Viper with the aim of getting it back to the streets and let it shine on an occasion. This time car should be painted not in white, but in its old colors again.
To achieve the first goal and to get the racer back to the streets, a strategy will be developed jointly with the Engineering Supervision.
Gradually, all the conversion work required by the Engineering Supervision is being implemented in the Heurich Classics workshop. At the very beginning the list seemed to be endless: spoiler cut, rear diffuser removed, side channels rebuilt, new tires and wheels (special order), brake system changed and hand brake system with CNC-machined caliper carriers installed. Also steering angle has been increased, cooling system changed, additional fans installed, engine peripherals modified, exhaust system adapted, electrics and complete light control changed, seats as well as harness were renewed, passenger seat installed, and finally the glazing, it was also renewed.
The aim was to recreate the Viper in its original Hasseröder design of 1999, so it had won the legendary 24 h at the Nürburg ring. The company Bruxafol in Hammelburg accepted the challenge. But the task was to get the colors of its time by means of platinum wrapping foils and to call all "old" sponsors along with their faithful lettering to the Viper again. The company Cam Shaft in Kempen, which has shown its even more extraordinary creativity one more time, was entrusted to the implementation of this not very simple task.
The Viper GTS-R, which was the car that won firstly the Zakspeed and then Michael Martin Racing Systems, is from 1998 and features a 6.2-liter V8 with 600 horsepower, the car is equipped with a Tremec six-speed manual gearbox, KW dampers and a Motec M8 system taking all that into account it only weights 1350 kg.
Its owner, a private citizen by the way, has certainly many plans concerning it…
