THE GREAT ESCAPE
America’s best selling small SUV is now greener and more fuel efficient.
Ford’s Escape Hybrid is destined for great ventures following an injection of electrical intelligence. Much to our delight it still sports all the features of its spouse such as the 4-wheel drive system, all-weather traction and of course off-road capabilities. It also accommodates 5 passengers and a generous amount of luggage.
But will its greener ethos jeopardise its performance? Well, Ford claim that you will hardly notice the difference between driving a hybrid version and the original Escape SUV. Apparently its acceleration time will be almost as responsive as the former Escape and its day-to-day driving capabilities will easily match up to other competition on the market.
But where it has the edge is that its effective use of new technology has set a president for more manufacturers to follow. One such intelligent feature of this hybrid is the way it works it stationary traffic. Its four-cylinder engine need not expel any harmful gases when stuck in a jam, neither will it burn away all of next week’s travel expenses. Instead, the 4-cylinder engine cuts out and when you need to pull away, you’ve got electrical power on tap. Clever, eh? Whereas many other SUV’s are only capable of travelling 20 miles while burning up a gallon of fuel in urban conditions, the Escape Hybrid is designed to give you back 35-40 miles for each gallon of fuel you put in.
So it has stamina, it has inherited the looks of its older sibling and it’s practical. Looks like Ford have all angles covered, thumbs up people!
